Cory Charles Gooding is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of San Diego. He earned his masters in Afro-American Studies and a doctorate in Political science, both from UCLA. He teaches courses in American Politics and racial and ethnic politics.
His research explores the diverse ways that historically disenfranchised communities affect political change. In this vein, his work examines traditional forms of political activity (i.e., voting, running for office, etc.), as well as a range of community based behaviors and symbols that challenge oppressive systems.
Dr. Gooding is a contributing author to several edited volumes and journal articles. Currently, he is developing a book manuscript that examines the political attitudes and contributions of Afro-Caribbean immigrants in the United States.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Gooding is also a co-host of the podcast “A Few Reasonable Words” where he and his colleagues bring political science to current news and political events.
